The title of this post pretty much sums it up. Harper has her first ear infection. She woke up with a fever of 101.8. She seemed puny and weak - obviously not herself. She didn't and doesn't have a cold. I knew it could just be a fever virus, but at the same time she did have a lot of sinus drainage last week so I was concerned she might have an ear infection. I opted to go the paranoid parent route and took her to the pediatrician this morning, and I am glad I did. Sometimes it's good to be the cautious parent!
With Hayden, we didn't catch his first ear infection until one of his ear drum's had ruptured (and both ears were infected).
Interestingly, Hayden got his first ear infection when we was almost 21-months-old. Harper is almost 20-months-old and now she has her first ear infection.
Following Hayden's initial double ear infection, he then got 3 more double ear infections in the span of 5 months. We were on the cusp of getting tubes for his ears. Fortunately, he didn't get any more ear infections after those first 4 double ear infections until he was 4-years-old and we were able to avoid tubes.
I am hoping Harper's first ear infection isn't the first of many - as was the case with Hayden. We shall see.
In regards to this ear infection, we did catch it early and she should be good to go with some antibiotics (and Motrin for pain).
