harper - finally eating food.

Harper is finally eating "real food" and not just formula. It's been tough and rough, but she is doing it.

This past weekend while Randy and I were out of town she ate well for Randy's mom and aunt. After that, I knew she was plenty capable of eating real food - plus, she finally seemed interested in it.

So as of Monday, she is down to two 8oz bottles (which are a combination of formula and whole milk - we are gradually working on switching over to whole milk). She has one bottle before her nap and one bottle before going to bed. That's it. Considering that she was drinking upwards of 45 ounces of formula a day - going down to just 16 ounces a day is a big deal and a great success!

Her pediatrician had noted that if she still wasn't eating food at her 1-year check-up (that is in two weeks) that she would be referred for services/therapy (because she really should be eating food by then). I'm glad that we won't have to go that route.

As of now she still won't drink the milk/formula out of a sippy cup - that will be our next challenge.

She seems to like blueberry pancakes and yogurt. We are trying lots of things and just trying to go with it - continually encouraging her to eat the food, even though she might prefer a bottle.

Note: She is not yet drinking from that cup with the milk in it. That's something we are working on.

  1. Now I am wondering what kind of therapy they give for kids who won't eat food by 1? I had no idea. Way to go on slowing getting rid of the bottles! We just started that long process yesterday. But we spent the last few weeks switching to whole milk and it didn't cause any issues. Hope it goes well for you, too!
