So, I thought I should update everyone on the potty training process.
It’s been almost 2 weeks now and so far things are going pretty good. He is still having to be "taken" to the potty about every 50 minutes or so, but he does so with great ease and complacency. When the timer goes off, it’s time to go potty. Period. (We use a small, kitchen timer to keep the time - resetting it after each "potty break".) And he’s cool with that. He is just starting to indicate that he needs to go, and those occasions are rare. In general, he goes in accordance with the beeping of the timer… but like I said, he’s cool with that.
Some days he doesn't have any accidents, other days he might have one or two. In all though, I am pleased with his success. It's a little tricky having to take him to the potty every 45-55 minutes. I have to prepare for the outings and make sure there is a potty available (or I bring the potty with us – which is great fun!). But he does pretty good going in the public potties or going in his potty if the need arises (at the park for instance in which a public toilet doesn't exist).
So we are completely diaper-free during the day (which Hayden likes), but we still do a diaper at night (we offer a pull-up but he prefers to wear a diaper). Some mornings the diaper is dry, others not so much... so we are going to keep with the night-time diaper for the time being.
He has yet to return to school since the process began (they are having a short summer break). It resumes next Thursday (the 11th). Hopefully things go well there as well.
I’ll be sure to keep you updated!
